Residential, House Alterations and Additions
2011 – 2012
The design of this extension was simply to give a growing family the additional space they required whilst improving the house and most particularly the communal living area’s relationship with the backyard. A period of exploring the correct diagram for an extension without compromising the existing house and yard was a key to the process. The resulting design is a new structure addressing the yard with a light well separating the double height extension from the existing house thereby creating a new covered entry into the heart of the house/dining room. The dining area that is the link between the existing kitchen and the new living areas. Flood prone land and building height constraints played a role in orchestrating a hierarchy of new spaces. From the ground level laundry to raised living room and first floor bedrooms each new space works hard for efficiency.
